The construction on Costco Wholesale is still on schedule and the store is slated to open in spring or early summer, said Supervisor Jeff McKay in a recent interview.

A driver was rescued from an overturned vehicle Wednesday night at 8600 Plymouth Road, according to a spokeswoman from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to a call at 8:04 p.m. and were on the scene Wednesday night of the single vehicle accident in Fort Hunt. The location is near Plymouth Haven Baptist Church.

Heavy, wet snow Wednesday has resulted in flight delays and cancelations at Reagan National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI).

Construction to Begin Soon on Fordson Place?

It appears construction could soon begin on the Fordson Place shopping center located on Richmond Highway between Boswell Avenue and Fordson Road.

The soon-to-be shopping center will be located across the street from the Mount Vernon Plaza.

Invited guests received a sneak preview Thursday night of the renovated Belle View grocery store at the Safeway Spring Social event. 

The gathering celebrated the grand re-opening of the store, which was closed for the past six months for renovations.

How does a man go from working as an aerospace engineer to brewing beer full-time?

Matt Rose of Alexandria left his job as an aerospace engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton last week to concentrate full-time on his new nanobrewery, Forge Brew Works. He has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $10,000 to secure funding for an additional fermenter and expand the slate of beers that will be offered at Forge Brew works.

River Bend Bistro May Open in Summer 2013

The opening date for the River Bend Bistro has been pushed back to summer 2013.

Bill and Caroline Ross, the local couple who purchased the former Village Wharf storefront in the Hollin Hall Shopping Center in 2012, say the River Bend Bistro may open as early as July. The couple originally hoped to open the River Bend Bistro in March. 

Police: Richmond Highway TD Bank Robbed Saturday Afternoon

The TD Bank located at 6615 Richmond Hwy. in Alexandria was robbed Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Fairfax County Police responded to a report of a robbery at the bank at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday. According to police, the suspect implied he had a gun. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived on the scene.

Belle View Safeway Re-Opens Friday

The Belle View Safeway will re-open on Friday morning.

The store will reopen after being closed for the past six months for renovations, including an expansion of the store.

Pier 1 Imports to Open in Mount Vernon Plaza

Pier 1 Imports will soon be opening at the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center on Route 1 in Alexandria.

Federal Realty, the firm that owns the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center, has signed Pier 1 Imports to replace Capital Discount Merchandise and will open in the next six months, Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation Executive Director Edythe Frankel Kelleher said.
