George Washington Parkway Classic: Sunday Road Closures

The George Washington Parkway will be closed Sunday for the GW Parkway Classic.

The George Washington Memorial Parkway will be closed from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday for the George Washington Parkway Classic 10 Mile and 5K race. According to an NPS representative, as runners head northbound on the parkway, select southbound sections of the parkway will be opened as they are cleared.

The George Washington Parkway Classic will start at 8 a.m. Sunday. The 10 mile race begins at the Mount Vernon Estate, and the 5K will begin at the Belle Haven Park and Marina. Both races will end at Oronoco Bay Park in Old Town Alexandria.

Personal vehicles will not be allowed to park at the Mount Vernon Estate. Any personal vehicles parked at Mount Vernon will be towed.

If you're traveling in Old Town on Sunday morning, vehicles will not be allowed north of King and South of Pendleton on Union Street or where posted on Franklin Street. Any vehicle parked in these areas will be ticked and towed.

Because the 5K will take place at the Belle Haven Park and Marina, the Friends of Dyke Marsh weekly Sunday morning field trip is cancelled. The next Sunday Field Trip will take place April 28.
