Construction on Mount Vernon Trail Begins Monday

Visitors are advised to follow detour to West Boulevard Drive.

Starting Monday, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Eastern Federal Lands Highways Division (EFLHD), in cooperation with the National Park Service (NPS), George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP), will begin a construction project to reconstruct pedestrian bridges on the Mount Vernon Trail.

The project will reconstruct bridges #13 and #14 on the Mount Vernon Trail between Waynewood Boulevard and Collingwood Road and bridges 20, 21, and 22 between Morningside Lane and Tulane Lane. During reconstruction of bridges #13 and #14, the Mount Vernon Trail in that section will be closed. A detour will direct visitors to use West Boulevard Drive. Visitors should follow the detour signs and exercise caution when using West Boulevard Drive sharing the road with vehicles.

The project will start on Monday and will last for several months, Monday through Friday, according to a recent press release issued by the National Park Service. The project is expected to be completed by fall.
