Biscayne Developer Fields Questions at HCA Meeting

The developer of the mixed-use redevelopment project in Huntington is expected to submit a rezoning application soon.

A&R Development met with the Huntington Community Association to provide an update and field questions from residents about its proposed 173 unit mixed-use redevelopment project at the corner of Huntington Avenue and Biscayne Drive Thursday night.

“The Biscayne developer did say they were asked by the planning staff to add additional parking ratios, so they are not going to have about two spaces of small retail in the building,” HCA Treasurer Michael Andel told Patch in an email.

According to the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation, A&R isactively working on a rezoning application and should submit the application in the next few months.

The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority approved an amendment to the Huntington Conservation Plan in June 2012, and the Board of Supervisors approved the amendment in September. The amendment allowed for the development to proceed.

The Mount Vernon Council of Citizens’ Associations Planning and Zoning Committee is scheduled to discuss the redevelopment project Monday night.

The HCA also heard from Sunoco, which is planning to reopen the closed gas station at 5928 Richmond Highway as a six-pump gas station with a convenience store. According to the SFDC, Sunoco submitted an application for a Special Exception permit for this development in July 2012 and the Board of Supervisors is set to rule on the application in February 2013.
