IHOP Serves Free Pancakes Tuesday for Charity

Get a free short-stack from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at IHOP in honor of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

If you’re in the mood for some fluffy, and best of all, free pancakes, you want to head on over to International House of Pancakes today.

From 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., the restaurant chain is gifting customers with a free short stack and giving them the opportunity to give back to the National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

If you are an IHOP regular, you may have already noticed the paper icons on the wall boasting the name of individuals and families who have donated to the LLS.  The IHOP at 7694 Richmond Highway is nearly wall papered with them.

This year, 62 IHOP restaurants in the Virginia, Maryland and D.C. region have decided to participate in the National Pancake Day event.  In 2010, the event raised $76,000 for research and services in the local area alone.  Our chapter of the LLS said they were pleased that IHOP is such a willing participant.

“It’s this great partnership that we have with them,” said Lisa Pagano, Senior Marketing Manager for the National Capital Area Chapter.  “It helps us raise money for blood cancer research while also raising awareness.”

During tomorrow’s event, volunteers will be on hand at every single participating restaurant all day to hand out information, distribute literature and answer any questions people may have.

“Blood cancers affect so many people, Pagano said. “Every four minutes someone will be diagnosed.”

Our chapter of the LLS heavily supports research but also provides patient services for those affected with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin ’s disease and myeloma.

Employees at the IHOP on Richmond Highway say they expect Tuesday will be a hectic, but rewarding day.

“Very busy,” said manager IB Chowbhury.  “You have to give back to your community so this is one way to give back.  Everybody’s willing to donate; this is a really good gesture.”

And Pagano makes a good point, where else will your philanthropic efforts lead to free breakfast on Tuesday?

“We would love for everyone to come out and enjoy some pancakes,” she laughed.
