Costco Construction Progressing as Planned

The construction on Costco Wholesale is still on schedule and the store is slated to open in spring or early summer, said Supervisor Jeff McKay in a recent interview.

SFDC Marketing and Communications Director David Ben told Patch a few weeks ago that the ground at the location was being allowed to properly settle and the building itself won't take long to build. McKay said some people may have thought the construction progress was stalled because they went in early and tore down the old multiplex.

"For environmental reasons they had to allow the site to sit for six months," McKay said. "In addition to that, because of some of the freezing temperatures we've had, they made a strategic decision to delay some of the other construction until the weather started to improve."

McKay said because Costco Wholesale is a simple, metal warehouse structure, the building will go up quickly and be open just as fast. He also said the site plan has been approved, so there are no other regulatory obstacles in the way of completing construction and opening on schedule.
