'Breaking Dawn' Will Have 10 p.m. Debut in Addition to Midnight Show

Fans won't have to stay out quite so late this year, on a school night, to catch the debut of the last in the popular "Twilight" film series.

Fans waiting to see The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn, Part 2 when it debuts Thursday will get a chance to see the premiere without staying up until 3 a.m. this year.

Previous premiers of the films (the first — Twilight—debuted in November 2008) in Northern Virginia have seen lines of middle-school and high-school students at the midnight shows. Presumably there was lots of yawning the next day.

The blockbuster films, based on the four books by Stephenie Meyer, star Kristen Stewart as Bella, an average girl who meets Edward, a vampire (played by Robert Pattinson) and Jacob (played by Taylor Lautner), a werewolf.

The film debuting this week will be the fifth and final in the series. It is the second half of Breaking Dawn, Part 1 and is based on Meyer's fourth book.

Area theaters, including AMC Hoffmann Center 22 in Alexandria, Regal Kingstowne Stadium 16 in Kingstowne and Rave Motion Pictures Centreville 12, will begin showing the film at 10 p.m. Thursday, instead of the just the usual midnight show, with staggered times including a midnight show that begins Friday at 12:01 a.m.

All three theaters still had tickets available, as of Saturday, for the marathon shows as well as showings of the single premiere.

In addition to seeing the movie at an earlier start time, "Twihards" will also be able to watch all five of the films in the series — for one day only, Thursday —back to back at area movie theaters, in a marathon that starts at about 11:30 a.m. Marathon tickets are $35 and include the latest film. AMC Hoffmann, Kingstowne and Rave Motion Pictures Centreville 12 are all showing all-day marathons.

Rave also has a special showing, starting at 7 p.m., of just The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2 back to back.

Tickets for just the new movie are $11.50, $8.50 for ages 12 and younger and $10.50 for those age 60 and older.
