When you think of elementary school kids, football players usually don’t come to mind. However, when it comes to Tamaric Wilson “usually” just doesn’t cut it. The junior West Potomac High School football player has been spending his Wednesday’s from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Bucknell Elementary School mentoring program.
The program pairs 60 high school students with 60 elementary school students to help with homework and enrichment activities. Wilson has been working with a fifth grader since the beginning of the year.

“I help him wind down after school…I just like to give back,” Wilson said. Wilson’s football coach recommended he join the program. He has been functioning as one of the 10 leaders of the program that help plan activities.
“[Wilson] has been a great role model. His commitment has been great,’ said Carrie Jones, school social worker at Bucknell and West Potomac.
Along with mentoring, Wilson maintains a 3.7 G.P.A. and a few colleges have shown interest in his football playing. He says if he doesn’t make it to the NFL he’d like to go into TV production and broadcasting.
