Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory

If outdoors, local residents should drink plenty of fluids.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Fairfax County and the city of Alexandria from noon until 9 p.m. today.

Temperatures will hover around the 90-degree mark, with heat index values in the mid-90s. According to the weather service, today marks the peak of the first stretch of summer-like heat.

Because area residents have not yet acclimated to hot conditions, the weather service suggest taking extra precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Participants in Memorial Day activities should be mindful of the heat index and plan accordingly, according to the weather service.
