Warm March Brings April Flowers

Record and near-record temperatures contribute to the warmest March on record for the contiguous United States.

Record and near-record temperatures in the eastern two-thirds of the country contributed to the warmest March on record for the contiguous United States, a record that dates back to 1895, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The average temperature was 8.6 degrees above the 20th-century average for March, according to NOAA.

Persistent warm temperatures throughout the month led to 25 states east of the Rockies having their warmest March on record, the agency found.

Locally, temperatures are expected to climb into the weekend, with the National Weather Service forecasting a high of 63 degrees on Friday, 72 degrees on Saturday and 81 degrees on Sunday. Sunny skies should reign supreme during the weekend.

There is a slight chance of showers Wednesday, according to the weather service.
