Top 5: The Week Ahead in Greater Alexandria

Farmers market, West Potomac High School performance, musicians and the Capital Fringe Festival.

Patch knows you have a million things to do this summer. But just in case you're looking for some interesting activities or events this week in Greater Alexandria, we got you covered.

This week, Patch highlights some of the coolest, most interesting events happening along the Route 1 corridor.

Detoxification Seminar. Learn some tips for your day-to-day life that will help with your health. Local chiropractor and clinical nutritionist Dr. Jeffrey Brown will lead a lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday on detoxification and how to choose the right program for your body. The seminar will take place at the Alexandria Chiropractic Center located at 101 South Whiting Street Suite 207.

Local Play. Beyond the Page Theatre Company of West Potomac High School will perform its student collective original play "Urban Legends" during the 2013 Capital Fringe Festival. The group will be performing through June 28. Click here for information on times and how to purchase tickets.

Farmers Market. If you're up and at it early enough stop by the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon Farmers Market. The market is open every Wednesday at Sherwood Regional Library from 8 a.m.  to noon. You can expect to find dairy products, produce, cut flowers, meats and baked goods at your local farmers market.

Musicians.
 The State Fair of Virginia is seeking local music acts to play during the 10-day fair, which begins Sept. 27. There is no charge to perform and performers are not paid. Artists would play at the Meadow Event Park’s Triple Crown Amphitheater. Send information to Micki Long at micki@threeoneoneproductions.com.

Performance Art.
 Looking to do something artsy this week? Stop by the Capitol Fringe Festival showcasing exploratory and contemporary performances. It’s going on now and runs through July 28. The festival is being held in a variety of venues in Washington, DC ranging from the Goethe Institut on 7th St., NW to Studio Theatre on 14th St., NW.
