This Week's Weather: Rainy Monday Followed by Sunny Week

Get ready for a bumpy start to the week. Monday is expected to be cloudy with a chance of rain and the area could see some thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

But after Monday, Northern Virginia will see a string of beautiful fall weather, the National Weather Service predicts.

Monday will start out cloudy with a 50 to 60 percent chance of thundershowers starting possibly around mid-morning, with highs around 75 degrees, according to the weather service. Any rain should clear out by late Monday night, according to the Capital Weather Gang blog.

Beginning Tuesday and continuing through Thursday, the Northern Virginia area is expected to see sunny, clear days with highs between 65 to 71 degrees. (The average high temperature for October in Northern Virginia is about 68 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.)

As the weekend nears, there is an increased chance for rain. Friday is expected to be "mostly cloudy" with a high near 68 degrees, with a 40 percent chance of showers according to The Weather Channel.

The record high for Monday, Oct. 15 was 87 degrees in 1975; the record low for that date was 32 degrees in 1874, according to The Weather Channel.
