This Week's Weather: Possibility for Rain, Wind Wednesday

An expected storm this week shouldn't hit the Northern Virginia area until after Election Day, according to local forecasts.

The weather in Northern Virginia this week holds a little bit of everything — sun, rain, wind and a possibility for snow out west of the area. A new storm is on the horizon for Wednesday, but not as strong as Sandy.

The week starts out sunny and clear on Monday with a high of 50 degrees but goes downhill from there. The next day, Election Day, gets a little chillier — a high of 48 degrees — and a little cloudier.

Tuesday night gets cloudier as a possible storm, a Nor'easter, forms offshore and then moves up through the Mid-Atlantic and toward the battered Northeast coast on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

"Though this storm will not have near the magnitude of the impact Sandy had, the combination of rain, wind and snow will add insult to injury for the recovery process along the East Coast," the Weather Channel notes.

The storm will likely bring heavy rain and strong wind gusts to Northern Virginia, mainly east of Interstate 95, beginning early Wednesday before the morning commute. Temperatures will dip to 43 degrees for a high, according to the weather service. 

On Thursday there is a 40 percent chance of rain and/or snow, with a high of 51 degrees. It's likely snow will only be seen west of Northern Virginia, according to forecasters.

Friday will dawn a bit cloudy but it will warm up to 57 degrees with a zero percent chance of rain, according to the Weather Channel.

Lows will be in the 30s this week.
