'The Black Widow' to Compete in Hooters Wing-Eating Championship

Local competitive eater will challenge world's best wing eaters for championship title and cash prizes.

Alexandria's Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas will show off her competitive eating skills once again in the worldwide Hooters Wing-Eating Championship, according to a recent news release.

Hooters will host the Worldwide Wing Eating Championship finale at 7 p.m. Thursday in Clearwater, Fla., to conclude its nationwide wing-eating competition in partnership with Major League Eating (MLE).

Thomas will travel to Florida to compete against some of the top professionally ranked eaters in a 10-minute, all-you-can-eat contest of Hooters world famous chicken wings for cash prizes and the title of Worldwide Wing-Eating Champion.

"The Black Widow" will have to bring her A-game as renowned professional eater Joey Chestnut defends his reigning champion title against two female competitive eating sensations — Miki Sudo, who bested Chestnut in a rib-eating contest in Chicago, and Michelle Lesco, who upset the top ranked eater at Ribfest’s RibMania.

Hooters will announce and crown the worldwide wing-eating champion as part of a weekend-long celebration in advance of National Chicken Wing Day on Monday, July 29.

Think you can eat your fare share of chicken wings? To celebrate the holiday, Hooters locations nationwide will offer unlimited chicken wings to guests to challenge wing-eating enthusiasts to collectively consume one million chicken wings in one day. Good luck, and happy wing eating!
