SFDC to Host Vibrant Streets Summit at Hampton Inn & Suites

Three speakers will discuss how to turn underutilized street side property into a unified, vibrant, and active corridor.

The Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC) will host a Vibrant Streets Summit from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Hampton Inn & Suites located at 5821 Richmond Hwy. During the summit, three speakers will discuss new development and the benefits and challenges of these concepts for the Route 1 corridor.

This event is open to the public and SFDC is inviting residents from area neighborhoods along Richmond Highway as well as developers and real estate brokers.

The Vibrant Streets initiative was created to encourage successful neighborhood retail environments. This program gives residents the tools and knowledge to create a vibrant street of their own regardless of population, ethnic composition, income or budget.

“Several mixed-use developments are either in the works or have been proposed for the Richmond Highway corridor,” said Edythe Kelleher, SFDC executive director in a prepared statement. “We look forward to discovering more opportunities for the area to develop into a series of healthy, vibrant streets that residents can enjoy.”

Coffee and continental breakfast will be served during the event. A $10 donation at the door is suggested.

Speakers for the event include:

  • Heather Arnold of development and design firm Streetsense
  • Steve Bannister of real estate development firm Capitol Investment Advisors
  • John Tschiderer, Vice President of Development for Federal Realty Investment Trust
