Route 1 Transportation Study: Tentative Schedule for Public Meetings

Tentative schedule for three large public meetings to discuss transportation study.

Members of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (VDRPT), VDOT, Fairfax County and Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC) met Wednesday at the South County Government Center to discuss the new multimodal transportation alternatives analysis.

The study is expected to take 12 months before VDRPT and AECOM make recommendations to improve transportation along a 14-mile section of Route 1. According to SFDC executive director Edythe Frankel Kelleher, three large public meetings have been tentatively scheduled for October 2013 and February and May 2014.

Because of the length of the Route 1 corridor, the meeting locations will vary. VDRPT will also make outreach visits to community organizations. They will discuss the study and hear from community members next week during the Mount Vernon Council of Citizens' Association meeting. Click here for more information about the MVCCA meeting.

The study will consider different modes of transportation that will help in improving travel along Richmond Highway, including bus rapid transit (BRTs), light rail transit (LRTs), roadway widening and pedestrian and cyclist pathways.
