UPDATE: Rain, Wind Gusts, Thunderstorms on Tap Today

NWS predicts 80 percent chance of rain for morning commute.

UPDATE (10:50 a.m.): The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday for the surrounding area including Fairfax County and the City of Alexandria. The time for the next high tide in Alexandria is 2:04 a.m. Minor coastal flooding is expected, NWS noted.

UPDATE: The sun is shining after some morning commute showers, but forecasters at WJLA say the Northern Virginia area could be in for some "strong to severe thunderstorms" this afternoon. The National Weather Service predicts possible damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes will be primary threats. Storms also could produce localized heavy rain that could lead to flooding, according to NWS.
