Progreso to Hold Art Auction Sept. 28

Literacy and citizenship center benefits immigrants in greater Alexandria community.

Progreso Literacy and Citizenship Center is holding its first annual art auction Sept. 28, at  south of Alexandria. 

Tickets can be purchased early for $10 each (or six for $40) or for $12 each at the door. Wine, soft drinks,and hors d'oeuvres will be served during the preview from 7 to 8 p.m. The auction will begin at 8 p.m. The church is located at 1301 Collingwood Road.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Progreso. For tickets or information, please email art_auction@progreso-hispano.org. The literacy and citizenship center benefits immigrants in the greater alexandria and Mount Vernon communities and is located at 4100 Mohawk Lane.

Also, Progreso is in need of bilingual dictionaries. Any type of bilingual dictionary is appreciated, as clients come from many parts of the world. Dictionaries can be dropped off at Progreso between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. A container will be outside the front door if the office is closed.

Additionally, Progreso currently has four board positions open. The organization is looking for volunteers with experience in and an interest in serving immigrants and improving the community. Volunteers with experience and interest in technology, fundraising, communications/public relations and insurance are especially needed.
