"It went very well," said Aubrey King, owner of Twin Springs Fruit Farm. "We had a good first day. We ran out of some things early. We had more things available than last year, which helped."

Residents perused breads, flowers, vegetables and fruit sold by vendors. Strawberries ripened early, and they were one of the more popular items sold at the farmers market.

If you couldn't make it to the opening day, plan to come next week. The Mount Vernon-McCutcheon Farmers Market will take place on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon at the library lot.
