In Gum Springs, residents flocked to the Gum Springs Community Center to dance, create art, play sports and feast on hot dogs. Reidents also set up a station for blood pressure and other health checks and a voter registration booth.

The evening also included a raffle and hand-outs of National Night Out bracelets. The nationwide event began in the 1970s as a way to get people out of their homes and meet each other with the common purpose of making communities safer by raising crime prevention awareness.
