Operation Walk Fun Run Comes to Fort Hunt

Nonprofit organization provides hip and knee replacements locally and abroad.

Local residents are invited to lace up their running shoes for a good cause and sign up for the 2012 Operation Walk 5K in Fort Hunt.

This year’s event will be held Sunday, June 3, at Fort Hunt Park. Funds raised will benefit Operation Walk Virginia, which provides hip and knee replacements locally and abroad to people with little or no access to health services. The fun run and 1-mile walk start at 8 a.m., said an organizer, Kelli Laffin.

Online registration is available here. This year marks the third annual event at Fort Hunt Park. Last year, more than 200 people participated, Laffin said.

“Operation Walk is a great organization at providing opportunities for people to walk who wouldn’t otherwise be able to walk,” she said.

This year, the organization will provide joint replacements in Antigua and Guatemala in September. Operation Walk Virginia also hosts annual services at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital to benefit Virginia residents who need joint replacements.
