Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot Soars to How Much?

Chances of winning: One in 259 million. Two brothers from Virginia were big winners in 2007.

Someone might get an early Christmas present Friday night if their ticket matches the numbers in the Mega Millions lottery drawing.

The Mega Millions lottery is estimated to hit $400 million before the 11 p.m. drawing Friday night, with Virginia residents purchasing 1.9 million tickets on Friday alone, lottery officials estimate. The cash value will be $216 million.

On March 30, 2012, Mega Millions made history with the world's largest prize in any jackpot game ever: $656 million. The jackpot was split three ways, by winning tickets in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.

On August 31, 2007, four winning tickets were sold, including one in Virginia. The four ticket-holders split $330 million. Two brothers, Tucker "T.J." Adcock and Bernard Adcock of Buckingham, Va., split $82.5 million.

The brothers bought the ticket at Duck’s Corner Food & Gas in Buckingham. Tucker picked the numbers himself, using an old ticket that hadn't won anything and had been generated using an "easy pick" function.
