How Long Will Cool Weather Last?

NWS says we'll have high of 64 on Saturday, 72 on Sunday.

Across Fairfax County and Alexandria this morning, school children and those heading off to work or a morning jog were a bit bundled up against a cool snap that hit the area last night.

Even though fall does not officially arrive until next Friday, Sept. 23, Northern Virginia is feeling a nip in the air today, with highs expected to reach only 63 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Our average temperature at this time of year is 80 degrees, according to the NWS.

How long will it last? According to the NWS, weekend temperatures will steadily creep upward, with our area seeing a high of 64 degrees on Saturday, 72 degrees on Sunday, and 78 on Monday. The fallish weather ends on Tuesday, when we're back into the low 80s.

The forecast also calls for a 40 percent chance of rain tonight and a chance for rain drizzles on Saturday.
