Heat Advisory Continues Friday

Temperatures are expected to rise to 101 degrees by this afternoon.

The greater Alexandria area is under a heat advisory throughout Friday.

Temperatures are expected to rise to 101 degrees by Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday, the high is forecast to be 103 degrees.

According to the weather service, a record-breaking heat wave coming from the Midwest is expected to spread throughout the eastern United States, including Northern Virginia.

Overnight lows are expected to drop only into the upper 70s or low 80s.

Some relief from the heat may come early next week, according to the weather service. There is also a chance of thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. The high Monday is forecast to be in the upper 80s, dropping to 85 degrees by Tuesday.
