Elementary Principal Resigning Jan. 1

Report: Parents and faculty upset with morale and turnover and demand her removal.

Fort Hunt Elementary school principal Barbara Leibbrandt will resign her position effective Jan 1, 2014. The announcement was made by assistant superintendent Deborah L. Tyler on Monday.

Leibbrandt spent the past 29 years in the school system, including the last four months with Fort Hunt in Alexandria, according to The Washington Post.

Fort Hunt families and teachers learned of the news in a letter from Tyler stating that Leibbrandt will be supplanted by interim principal Janet LaBel (a retired Fairfax principal), while a search for a permanent replacement begins.

Leibbrandt's imminent resignation in part had to do with intense scrutiny she received from Fort Hunt parents and staff members earlier in the school year, according to The Post.
