Eagle Scout Hopeful Volunteers to Replace Benches at UCM

Matthew Hargrove organized his Eagle Scout project to benefit United Community Ministries.

Matthew Hargrove, a member of Troop 654  from St. Luke's Episcopal, organized for his troop and friends to replace the benches at United Community Ministries (UCM) in Alexandria. The group of about 14 volunteers took out time Saturday to assemble the new benches and maintain the surrounding yard.

Hargrove, a junior at Accotink Academy and West Potomac High School, said he wanted to organize the project to make UCM look more inviting near the entrance of the building.

Hargrove raised money to purchase the materials he needed for the benches. He said the materials cost about $500 and he was able to raise more than that amount with the help of friends and family members.
