is sponsoring a free health fair Saturday with services ranging from healthy eating and menu planning to confidential HIV screening.
The event is open to the public and lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The church is located at 2221 Emmett Drive, between West Potomac High School and Quander Road School.
Medical providers and various organizations from within the Washington metropolitan area will be present, including the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and Inova Health System. There will be various health screening stations, talks on various health issues by health care professionals and other important health information will be available to inspire local residents to live healthier lives.
Robin Whitmire, church office manager, said the church has offered services such as free diabetes kits in the past, but Saturday is the first time the church has held a full-fledged health fair. The church’s theme for the year is “living well in 2012,” inspired by 3 John, Chapter 2, she said.
“We thought of different health conditions,” Whitmire said. “Just as a whole, some members are cancer survivors or going through treatment for cancer right now. We have a few members that had limb amputations. We had a member with a heart transplant — just a different scenario of things, and our pastor just thought this should be our focus this year.”
The church’s health ministry is sponsoring the event.
