Campagna Center Supporters Host Derby Event

The third annual Bowties & Belles event is set for Saturday 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Looking to have fun for a good cause this weekend?

The Junior Friends of the will hold its third annual Bowties & Belles, a Kentucky Derby party, Saturday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at . Proceeds from this event help support programs of the Campagna Center.

The televised race time is set for 6:15 p.m. The event will feature an afternoon of watching the Derby, a raffle, a silent auction and a cocktail reception featuring the official Derby cocktail, the Mint Julep.

“The Junior Friends are thrilled to be hosting a springtime event for the community of Alexandria to benefit the Campagna Center,” said Jane Spence, chairwoman of the Junior Friends, in a statement. “It’s a fun day for the ladies to don their most fashionable hats and the gents to sport their best bow ties.”

“We are very pleased that so many businesses and individuals have come together to sponsor an event that is designed to raise awareness about our work and provide funding to support vital programs and services we provide to children and families in Alexandria,” said Tammy Mann, center president and CEO, praising event sponsors in a statement.

Collingwood on the Potomac is located at 8301 E. Boulevard Drive, Alexandria. Parking is available across the George Washington Memorial Parkway at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road. Organizers will provide shuttles from the church parking lot to and from the event.

For almost 70 years, the Campagna Center has worked to foster a positive environment for Alexandria’s children and families. Its programs include early childhood services to ensure some of the neediest children in the community are prepared for school. The center also operates after-school tutoring and enrichment programs for elementary students to reinforce academic and social skills needed for success in school and life.

The center also provides youth development programs at T.C. Williams High School through Building Better Futures, and the center supports adult and family literacy through the New Neighbors program. Learn more about the center here.

The Junior Friends of the Campagna Center has provided fundraising and volunteer support to the center since 1970.
