PHOTOS: Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Adoptable Pets Looking for a Home

Here are some of the dogs, cats and other critters waiting for a visit from you.

Looking to adopt a pet? We're featuring photos of some of the adoptable pets available at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, 4101 Eisenhower Ave. in Alexandria. You can stop by the shelter and see them any day of the week except Wednesdays.

The hours are:

  • Sunday: 12 noon to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Tuesday: 1-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday: CLOSED
  • Thursday, Friday: 1-8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 12 noon-5 p.m.

Before adopting, consider the time and resources you can spend caring for a companion animal, the League advises. At the League, staff can provide realistic estimates of the exercise, housing and general care needs for each of the adoptable animals.

The League has developed different shopping lists for each type of companion animal available at the shelter.
Want to help the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria? Mark your calendars for their fundraiser: Mardi Growl, Wednesday, April 2, at the US Patent and Trade Offices at 600 Dulany Street in Alexandria.

For more information, call the shelter at (703) 746-4774.
