After Balmy Temperatures, Get Ready to Bundle Up Mid-Week

Highs will only reach mid-30s on Tuesday and Wednesday

After a pretty balmy holiday for the Northern Virginia area, with highs reaching 60 degrees in some areas, get ready to bundle up come Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service predicts highs in the mid-30s for Tuesday and Wednesday, with lows in the 20s on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Tuesday is expected to be breezy with a high of 34 degrees. The NWS said to expect more of the same on Wednesday, when the area is expected to see temperatures reach to just 33 degrees.

Area weather will begin to warm up on Thursday, when the NWS forecasts temperatures to reach 41 degrees. By next weekend we'll be back in the 50s.

For Sunday, New Year's Day, the balmy temperatures the region has enjoyed will continue, with a high of 57 degrees, according to NWS. Scattered rain showers with a possibility of a few snow flurries, are expected late tonight. The temps begin to dip come Monday, Jan. 2, a federal holiday, with a high of 43 degrees.

According to the Weather Channel, the record temperature for Jan. 1 was in 2005, when it was 69 degrees. The coldest on record? -14 degrees, in 1881.
