  • Today from 4:30- 7 p.m., the Mount Vernon at Home Celebrate! event at  will include entertainment, refreshments and a keynote address by Sharon Bulova, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. RSVP is mandatory:
  • Tonight from 6:30-9 p.m., the Colonial Republican Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting at the Virginia Hills Administration Center. The speaker will be State Delegate Dave Albo. The address is 6520 Diana Lane, Alexandria, VA 22310.
  • The Mount Vernon Pyramid is presenting a free chorus concert at  tonight from 7-8 p.m.
  • Andre the Giant, a French wrestler, was born today in 1946; he died in 1993. Andre the Giant is well-known for his role as Fezzik in the movie The Princess Bride.
  • Today in 1994, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis died at age 64.
  • Today in 2001, Apple, Inc. opened its first retail stores with one in Tysons Corner and another in California.
  • Friday is National Bike to Work Day, so be sure to take a few minutes today to register with the Washington Area Bicyclists Association at http://www.waba.org to win some cool prizes, and check out the Fairfax County bike trails and road map at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/bike to plot your bike route to work tomorrow morning.
