Kids Play

School’s out and having a fun, safe place to play is especially important in the summer.

That’s why Rebuilding Together Alexandria teamed up with nearly 100 Fannie Mae volunteers, as part of the company’s 7 Days to SERVE program.  Last week we made updates to the exterior areas in Lacy Court, a low-income housing complex in Alexandria that is home to 44 families.

Throughout the day, volunteers built a children’s play area as well as benches and tables so parents can watch their children play.  They also installed bike racks to give the neighborhood children a place to store their bicycles. In addition, our volunteers beautified the grounds through landscaping and painting. The result is a safe and friendly outdoor space for children to play and visit—just in time for summer.

All year round, Rebuilding Together Alexandria works to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize the Alexandria community by providing free home repairs and modifications.  These upgrades are important since most of Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s clients live near the poverty level—earning less than $27,000 a year.  Rebuilding Together Alexandria has worked on more than 1,700 projects in Alexandria since its inception in 1986.
