United Community Minisitries (UCM)'s annual Back to School Program is in full swing to outfit 1,000 needy students (K-12) for the upcoming school year -- and we need your help!

New backpacks and monetary donations for the supplies to fill them are requested by Friday, August 3rd.

Please drop off backpacks anytime Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5 pm, at UCM's offices at 7511 Fordson Rd., Alexandria VA 22306 -- before the August 3rd deadline.

For your shopping convenience to donate backpacks, we have a new UCM Amazon.com Wish List for pre-selected backpack options. Shop online at any time, and backpacks will automatically ship directly to UCM!

UCM is able to purchase shcool supplies in bulk at a deep discount, thanks to a unique partnership with Fairfax County Schools.  For each $10 donation, UCM is able to purchase $40 worth of supplies--which will fill a backpack for one student.  Your $50 donation and 5 backpacks will outfit 5 low-income children to ensure they're ready for the new school year.

UMC's goal is to outfit 1,000 students, so we need $10,000 and 1,000 backpacks by August 3rd.   You can make a gift now at UCM's donation page (designate "Back to School") or mail or bring your check to: Back to School Program, UCM, 7511 Fordson Rd., Alexandria, VA 22306.

Volunteers to help with organizing school supplies are needed on August 17 and 18, from 9:00 to 5:30 pm, as well as for the distribution dates to families on several dates later in August.

We also have sponsorship opportunities for your business or community organization. If you have a group--or know of one--that can help with a financial sponsorship or backpack drive or with volunteering, please let us know!
