As a special treat at the beginning of MVUC’s new church year, Melissa Cox and her band will present a benefit concert for Beacon House following the Ingathering Picnic on Sept. 9. Melissa plays guitar, mandolin, and ukulele and is a classically trained vocalist. She and members of her talented band, who are just finishing their East Coast summer tour, perform combinations of folk, rock, classical, Celtic, and world fusion music. Her songs highlight peace, love, and social justice. Great fun for the entire family!
The concert is open to the public, and all are welcome. A goodwill offering will be taken to benefit Beacon House, which provides mentoring, athletic, and nutritional programs to at-risk children in the Edgewood Terrace community in Washington, D.C.

More About Mount Vernon Unitarian Church
The Mount Vernon Unitarian Church draws from all religious ideas to form this tight-knit community. Each fall, the church holds a craft fair featuring homemade goods and foods.
Parishioners can also participate in several musical programs, including jazz and choir groups. And, for something different, the church holds Yoga classes and theological discussion groups.
The church's motto is that it is a "Welcoming Congregation." As part of that initiative, church officials make efforts to support to gay, lesbian, and bisexual persons and their families.
