Dr. Michael Yuzefovich, referred to simply as Dr. Mike, is an obstetrician and doctor of women’s health issues. I came upon Dr. Mike’s practice three years ago, when I found out I was expecting my second child.
To say I was terrified is an understatement. The pregnancy and the labor did not bother me nearly as much as the bigger problem of health insurance. I had none. I had nowhere to turn. Would I be stuck going to a clinic, like so many of my neighbors in the same situation as me?
Thankfully, no. Through God’s great graces, I headed to my first of many visits to the Department of Family Services. Eventually, I became eligible for Medicaid. Suddenly, there was hope.
As soon as I learned of the great news, I started calling every local obstetrician. One by one, each doctor’s office told me that they did not deal with Medicaid patients. When I asked them why, all the office staff would tell me is that their policy precluded Medicaid. Period. No explanations, no regrets, no nothing but tough luck.
I was starting to get worried that I’d have to travel far to find an obstetrician that accepted Medicaid. Out of nowhere, my hero emerged. I call him Dr. Mike. I called his office and was practically fighting by then, as I was frustrated. To my surprise, the office staff calmly told me that Dr. Mike in fact did accept Medicaid, and how soon would I like to make an appointment?
I just about dropped the phone. I ended up seeing Dr. Mike throughout my entire pregnancy. As it turned out, God’s special circumstances called for me to see Dr. Mike, because he was the one who was best equipped to handle my situations. I was a jumpy patient who asked lots of questions. I took my daughter with me to every appointment. No matter what I threw at him, Dr. Mike solved all.
Dr. Mike was kind to both of us, saying so nicely to me how much he has enjoyed watching my daughter grow up and mature before his very eyes. Dr Mike was sympathetic when I needed anti-nausea medicine. He and I even joked around a bit. I got to know him and found out how much he enjoyed fishing. I told Dr. Mike he had better start cloning himself and send one of himself fishing while the other handle the growing number of patients in his very busy practice.
Dr. Mike delivered my second daughter and boy was I glad he did. He also delivered a perfect level of care from the outset, right through the most tender moment of all. I haven’t gone back to see Dr. Mike in over a year, but I still recall with fondness and a heart filled with gratitude for all he did for me and my two girls during a trying and difficult pregnancy.
If you are grateful for the services and level of care rendered by a doctor, I hope you will share your story below!
