Your Guide to Debris Collection

Fairfax County officials have offered the following guide to debris cleanup from the June 29 storm.
All private refuse collection companies operating in Fairfax County must collect brush placed at their customers’ curbsides, as long as the brush is in bundles of less than 4 feet in length, weighs less than 50 pounds and has no piece larger than 6 inches in diameter.
For larger amounts of brush or bulk debris, you should contact your trash collection service provider for information about special collections and set-out instructions.
For a charge, the county does offer a MegaBulk collection service to collect larger amounts of brush or bulk debris. You may also self-haul large amounts of brush or bulk debris to the county’s recycling and disposal centers at the I-66 Transfer Station or the I-95 Landfill Complex where it can be disposed of for a fee.
During the storm recovery, the brush disposal fee has been set at $5 per load.

Bundles.
Got that?
I once wondered why they didn't take away my branches/brush.
Then I looked it up and started BUNDLING by using twine. (At either end of the four-foot sections of brush/branches.)
Bingo.
I wonder of those folks with big piles of branches still sitting at their curb -- now bearing crispy brown leaves long after the storm cleanup -- get it.
Not gonna be picked up.
Not until everything is cut to length and bundled.
For those tired of looking at the mess, gently inform your neighbor.

Well, not exactly.
If you have trash collection by the County, you can call or go online to arrange a special pickup of brush. Which is what i did last week, but even though the pickup was scheduled for Monday, the brush is still sitting there. When I called the County on Tuesday to inquire, I was told they are running behind and would get there. As of Thursday morning, the brush is still there and on line it says my pickup is 'closed'. So I just scheduled another for next Monday. We'll see, you can't get too upset after a storm of that magnitude.
The point being, there is likely more to the brush on the curbs than non-bundling.
