WPHS Class of 2012 Q&A: Danielle McHugh
Softball player will attend Tennessee Tech this fall.
West Potomac honor grad Danielle McHugh, 18, enjoys learning about people. She will be putting those skills to use as a journalism major at Tennessee Tech. McHugh will be attending on a softball scholarship. Patch caught up with McHugh before graduation to discuss her speech and aspirations.
What was your inspiration behind your graduation speech?
I figured everyone was going to talk about the past few years and their future, but I’m going to talk about moments and how we should take every one and grasp them.
How long did it take you to write your speech?
I got a lot of ideas and I wrote them as I went along. So I can't really say.
What are you looking forward to most about attending college?
Looking forward to meeting new people. People interest me. I think it’ll be good for all of us to get away and start new.
What will you miss about home?
I’ll miss the sense of home and my mother of course. My mom’s my best friend. I’m an only child.
Which teacher inspired you most in high school?
My photography teacher was a huge inspiration throughout my high school career. She’s so alive.
What are some of your favorite high school memories?
Freshman year homecoming, all the football teams, and softball tournaments. [Softball’s] a huge part of my life.
What are your plans for the rest of the summer?
Softball. I’m only going to be home a few weeks. I’m going to take everything in.
