Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Welcome to Greater Alexandria Patch

Greater Alexandria Patch will cover news from Fort Hunt to Belle Haven, Huntington and beyond.

Your local Patch is changing its name but will continue to cover news in the areas we used to call Huntington-Belle Haven and Fort Hunt.

Welcome to Greater Alexandria Patch!

The "Fort Hunt" and "Huntington-Belle Haven" Patch sites covered so much more than just those neighborhoods—we included Groveton, Belle View, New Alexandria, Hybla Valley and several other pockets in and around the area.

We'll still cover all of these areas with the same dedication and attention as before, but we hope the new name is more inclusive for our readers—all of whom have a mailing address in "Alexandria," no matter what neighborhood they call home.

Based on the ways we’ve seen you—our faithful readers and advertisers—use the Patch sites, it was just good common sense to create one site that compiles both local and big county news in one place.

Don’t worry: We'll still offer the same robust coverage of everything happening in all parts of Fairfax County and (very occasionally) we'll throw in items of interest from our nearby Alexandria city Patch sites, too.

We aren’t reducing our focus on this area. This new site is meant to offer a convenient place to find coverage of the things that matter—which is something we’re always striving to do.

As always, if you think we're missing anything, let us know!

Really bad idea.

Fort Hunt, Belle Haven etc. are not part of the City.

Patch's collapse continues.

So sad.

I don't understand. The story says you will very occasionally throw in items from the city of Alexandria Patch but the header says you will cover the city of Alexandria. For those of us in Fort Hunt, Alexandria is a mailing address only. We live in Fairfax county. Separate governments and schools. We have more in common with Springfield, Fairfax, Falls Church or Great Falls than we do the City of Alexandria.

Our coverage area isn't changing at all. Fort Hunt Patch and Huntington-Belle Haven Patch have simply merged, and the new combined site will cover the entire Route 1 corridor from the Beltway south to Mount Vernon. We've always included the additional item of interest from Old Town Alexandria, and will continue to do so, but the focus really remains on the heart of what people call the Alexandria part of Fairfax County.

Here at UCM, we're excited about the merger! We appreciate all the publicity and reporting by the Patch staff and editors for our mission to engage our greater Alexandria community to help lift our neighbors in need out of poverty.. and on to stability and success.
