VSE Building to be Replaced with High-Rise Residential Building
Old building is 40 years old.
The former VSE Corp. building in Huntington is scheduled to be torn down and replaced by a 346-unit high-rise residential building, according to the Southeast Fairfax Development Corp.
VSE, a government engineering and construction contractor, announced last year that it had won the Manufacturing Deal of the Year award from the Global M&A Network. The company subsequently moved its headquarters from its location near the Huntington Metro Station to Springfield, near the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station, earlier this year.
The owner, MRP Realty, plans to demolish the 40-year-old office building on Huntington Avenue and replace it with the residential units and 366,000 square feet of office/hotel space. The development plan was designed to comply with the comprehensive plan for the Transit Development Area.
MRP submitted a rezoning application in July 2011, which was deferred and then assigned to staff for review in April 2012. A staff report is expected by September 2012.
