UPDATE: Local Mom Continues Fundraising for LLS
The Crabtree family will host a final fundraising yard sale on Saturday.
Three-year-old Tyler Crabtree of Fort Hunt was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia earlier this year. His mother, Michelle, has decided to join forces with her friend to raise funds for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. So far, they have raised $5,200 for Team and Training and will run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon this year.
Tyler is now finishing the delayed intensification stage of his treatment and will begin a three-year-long maintenance phase in mid-October.
“For a three year old, he amazes me and the staff at Children's National Medical Center,” Michelle said. “He has decided he does not want them to say '1,2,3’ when they are accessing him with the big needle or removing it. He reminds them each time and knows the routine at both the hospital and the clinic when he visits for chemo treatments.”
The Crabtrees will host their final fundraising yard sale for Leukemia Lymphoma Society on Saturday. According to Michelle, they have about $1,100 left before reaching their goal of $6,400. The Crabtrees will also raffle off four tickets to the Nats vs. Phillies game, and proceeds will benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
Tyler’s family has also created a team in his honor for the Light the Night walk on Oct. 20. Michelle hopes to get at least 100 people to join her in walking with Tyler and she has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 for the event.
“I hope to help with funding to LLS so they can find a cure for Leukemia in Tyler's lifetime,” Michelle said.
