Shopping Carts Return to Watershed Area

Volunteers needed for Watershed Clean-Up Day Saturday.

During his last cleanup at Little Hunting Creek in 2012, Del. Scott Surovell (D-44th District) and a number of volunteers pulled out 136 shopping carts from the creek.

The Alice Ferguson Foundation and the Trash Free Potomac Network will host a series of clean-ups Saturday in various locations along the Potomac River.

Here is a list of clean-ups in the Route 1 corridor on Saturday.

Del. Surovell will host three clean-ups in the following locations:

  • Janna Lee Avenue Bridge: From Route 1, turn west on Buckman Rd, Right on Janna Lee Avenue, to the bridge over little Hunting Creek (just before the Creekside Village Apartments).
  • Creekside Village Location: Take Janna Lee Avenue all the way through Creekside Village Apartments, until the road terminates at the end of the parking lot.
  • Mount Vernon Plaza: Meet on Fordson Rd., beside the Duron Store at the northeast corner of Mount Vernon Plaza. Parking is available behind Shopper's Food Warehouse and the post office, or on Cyrene Drive in South Meadows Condos. Do not park in the limited parking in front of Duron and neighboring stores. Be sure to wear rubber boots - the easiest access is to walk in the channel.
