definitely an isolated incident. This is one of the safest areas in all of ALexandria/fairfax and a great shopping plaza.

That would explain why there's helicopters flying around.

Is there any information whether this incident was a domestic dispute, robbery, gang related?

Was just there on Monday. Remember this guy who occupied the last chair from the entrance. Did good work. I haven't seen a picture of the deceased but I fear it is the gentleman who was very affable and helpful. Also from Vietnam if I remember correctly. He was just a very fine person from the times I talked with him. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

I got my hair cut there this past weekend. I'm one of the few women who gets their hair cut at a barbershop. Was turned on to the place because my husband gets his head shaved there and recommended it. As my hairstyle is short and spiky, I gave the shop a try and was very pleased. The quality is good and the price is reasonable. Even if I add a head/shoulder massage, the price is still cheaper than a typical women's hair salon. Since that first visit, I have been back about five times. My hairstylist/barber is Jimmy, who works near the back of the shop (right before the big fish tank). After seeing the shooter's picture, I definitely remember him. My memory is that he was quiet and didn't smile much. My fear is that this man's chair was at the back of the shop near Jimmy and that Jimmy might be one of the shooting victims. I stopped by the shopping center yesterday evening to see if I could get any additional information from the police. Jimmy was getting ready to take his family to Virginia Beach for a short vacation.... hopefully, he's already down at the beach and away from this tragedy.

Killing over a boloney sandwich... Heh. Think about it. That much energy and thought into that... When he gets to prison, the inmates better watch out, and don't mess with his food...

I have to say that I was impressed with the Fairfax County Police Department and the response to the incident. There was very good coverage and an immediate response to close nearby schools and get information out to protect the citizens of Alexandria. You can see by the photos that there were sufficient officers and onsite investigative crews to handle the situation. When people complain about taxes, I point out that we have the best police and fire department (and schools) in the state, if not the country.

Patrick - you are so right! Between the on scene coverage that Patch (thanks Brian!) provided, Fairfax Police's Greg Kottemann, the County alert system and our neighborhood email system, we (New Alexandria) felt informed and safe throughout the entire incident. We've lived 2 blocks from the Belle View Shopping Center for 20 + years - it's a wonderful, safe place..........and I've probably had my hair cut at the Belle View Barber Shop over 100 times in those 20 years!

I was working at the safeway when it happened because I had a 12 to 8 shift and what I saw was extremely scary. It's just amazing how crime hits close to home.
