Route 1 Dispatches: String of Moped Thefts in Mount Vernon Police District

Fort Hunt Patch

Police are warning local residents about a rash of moped thefts in the Mount Vernon Police District. In recent months, 23 mopeds have been stolen in the Mount Vernon Police District.

The New Gum Springs Civic Association asked for improvements and expanded facilities at Martin Luther King Park and in the Audubon neighborhood at a public meeting about the Fairfax County park bond, which will be on the ballot this November.

Huntington-Belle Haven Patch

Fairfax County Police are investigating a robbery at ACE Cash Express in Huntington that took place on Monday. Suspects reportedly cut a 3-foot by 2-foot hole in a roof, slid through it, and robbed the business.

The Fairfax County Park Authority will hold a public information meeting on July 30 to discuss the master planning process for the future of Westgrove Park.

Mount Vernon Patch

Fairfax County Public Schools announced Thursday that a recent internal investigation revealed a testing irregularity in the way some Fort Belvoir Elementary School students took SOL exams.

MVHS head boys’ soccer coach Robert Garza is leaving the Majors to coach at Robinson High School next year.
