Red Roof Inn Alexandria now boasts hardwood floors, flat screen TVs and Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses thanks to a new $2 million renovation.

Hotel staff held a grand re-opening event Thursday afternoon, complete with room tours, food, cake and a raffle. General Manager Robert Whaley said the renovation covered every bit of the hotel, inside and outside.

“The whole object here is we’re offering more of a mid-scale product for economy prices,” Whaley said. “Our prices are still going to stay in the economy range.”

Outside, all the steel work was refurbished and siding remodeled and painted. There are new lights in the parking lot, and the parking lot has been resealed and restriped.

Prices start at $89 a night for a standard king. Weekly rates start at $69.99 per day.

Touring the new rooms Thursday was Mike Garrett of Washington, who called the rooms “great.”

“They’re brand new,” Garrett said. “They look a lot like the hotels that are out there like Comfort Inn. It looks like Red Roof Inn has gone through a lot of changes, it looks like, with these new rooms. It looks totally different, so I’m really excited to have a chance to stay in one.”

Hotel guest Dustin Williams of South Carolina was another happy customer.

“I love the rooms,” Williams said. “They’re nice. I’ve been here for the last three days, and I love my room. I love my hardwood floors, the mattress, the whole set-up. It’s fabulous.”
