Robber Strikes Out at Subway, Robs Boost Mobile
Police arrest a 40-year-old man Tuesday evening after he allegedly robbed Boost Mobile on North Kings Highway.
After a failed attempt Tuesday at holding up a North Kings Highway Subway sandwich shop, a man decided to try his luck at robbing a nearby Boost Mobile store.
Around 5:54 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to Subway at 6230 North Kings Hwy., for a robbery report, according to Police Information Officer Lucy Caldwell. A man reportedly approached the cashier, implied a weapon and demanded money.
After the Subway cashier refused to cooperate, the man left the restaurant and went to the Boost Mobile nearby. The man demanded cash and implied a weapon again, and the employee complied. The suspect then left and headed toward North Kings Highway.
Police arrived on the scene and after a short foot pursuit, apprehended the suspect, 40-year-old Steven Mellott of no fixed address. Although injuries were not sustained during the pursuit, Mellott complained of chest pains and was transported to a local hospital.
Mellott was charged with robbery of the Boost Mobile and attempted robbery of the Subway and was transported to the Fairfax Adult Detention Center.
A 7-Eleven was also robbed Tuesday on Huntington Avenue.
