This story does not say if the pedestrian had just gotten off a bus or not. The bus stops along this stretch of Rt 1 are usually IN THE MIDDLE of the block, making it more convenient to walk across an unlit Rt 1 rather than walk to the light and cross. We need to move the bus stops along Rt 1 to the corner(s) as Washington, DC has done.

Yes, convenience certainly trumps SAFETY. "More convenient" is an excuse for not doing the right/safe thing, and then expecting someone else to pay. It's pretty common among pedestrians along US1.
I also despair at what some people are teaching their CHILDREN, by doing the same thing when they have children with them.

Just wanted to note that the northbound side of Richmond Highway has no sidewalk from Quanderer Road (Ourisman and Five Guys) all the way down to Huntington Avenue. This is a huge predicament for all pedestrians from the hotels on that side of the road, as well as unwary locals.

Any pedestrian that attempts to cross Route 1 on a regular basis is aware that it's often difficult in several areas. There are insufficient crosswalks, sidewalks and not enough time to cross with the "walk" sign and one has to hope that drivers allow pedestrians to cross. Many times, pedestrians with crutches, canes or wheelchairs cannot make it across the street safely - crosswalk or not.
