Police: Burglaries Reported Along Route 1 Corridor

The following information was supplied by the Fairfax County Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

 

On the above map, the addresses are block numbers, not specific home or business addresses.

The following items are from recent police updates through Jan. 16 from the Mount Vernon Police District of the Fairfax County Police Department.

Burglary (blue on map), 3:45 p.m., Jan. 10, 7400 block of Convair Drive, A resident reported someone entered the home and stole cash. Forced entry was made through a rear window.

Burglary (blue on map), 10:40 p.m., Jan. 12, 6000 block of Bangor Drive, A resident reported someone entered the home and stole jewelry. Forced entry was made through a rear door.

Burglary (blue on map), 12:50 p.m., Jan. 13, 6100 block of North Kings Highway, Officers responded for a burglary alarm and found the front door of a business smashed. Cigarettes were stolen.

Burglary (blue on map), 5:45 a.m., Jan. 13, 1300 block of Tulane Drive, A resident reported someone entered the home but nothing was stolen. Forced entry was made through a rear door.

Burglary (blue on map), 8:45 p.m., Jan. 13, 6700 block of Tower Drive, A resident reported someone entered the home and stole several items to include a television. Forced entry was made through a rear door.

Burglary (blue on map), 1:35 p.m., Jan. 16, 2800 block of School Street, A neighbor reported a suspicious person. Officers detained the individual and found evidence of a crime. Following an investigation, Julio Barrera Caballero, 19, of Alexandria, was charged with burglary and grand larceny.

  • 7700 block of Richmond Highway, purse from business
  • 7800 block of Richmond Highway, credit cards from business
  • 8200 block of Richmond Highway, wallet from residence
  • 8300 block of Richmond Highway, cell phone from business
  • 8400 block of Richmond Highway, air compressor and motor from vehicle
  • 8500 block of Richmond Highway, cash from business
  • 8600 block of Richmond Highway, bottle of liquor from business

This is unfortunate. More burglaries and the reputation of the area is getting worse. As a resident it is very frustrating :(

Your categorization of thefts seems to be a bit confusing. Burglary is a type of larceny as larceny is defined as theft or depriving someone of their property. Robbery is the other category of larceny (or theft) and is defined as taking property from a person rather than just a place. It is hard to tell whether the above larcenies were burglary or robbery. This may be parsing words, but it makes a difference in the details of the crime whether any person was put in harms way by the perpetrator.
