Pier 1 Imports to Open in Mount Vernon Plaza
The popular housewares store will open in the next six months.

Pier 1 Imports will soon be opening at the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center on Route 1 in Alexandria.
Federal Realty, the firm that owns the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center, has signed Pier 1 Imports to replace Capital Discount Merchandise and will open in the next six months, Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation Executive Director Edythe Frankel Kelleher said.
"Pier 1 is a nationally recognized company and it's very popular and has a good following," Kelleher told Patch. "We are optimistic that it will succeed in the Route 1 corridor."

I do love Capital Discount Merchandise, though. It saves me a trip to the (much smaller) dollar stores along US1, or to Lorton for a Dollar Tree, for those products one simply can't justify paying more for.
Will they be relocating?

Pier One will certainly add a "lift" to the neighborhood shopping center. oh and yes, more traffic (lol) have to laugh rather than cry......
with the traffic Michael's, CVS and US Post Office already have in that "corner" of the shopping center; one will NEVER be able to access the credit union.
