Construction on the Costco Wholesale store on Route 1 is progressing and on track for a May 2013 opening.

SFDC Marketing and Communications Director David Ben told Patch that construction is on track.

"The ground is being allowed to properly settle and the timeline of a May opening is still on track," Ben said. "The building does not take very long at all to build because it is a warehouse."

The store will be located at 7940 Richmond Hwy. in Alexandria.

Next to the Wal-Mart across from Sherwood Hall lane. On the spot where the old Multi-Plex Theater was.

I heard that part of the plan for the Costco was to reconfigure the roads and lights at that intersection . . . the only way it was going to be approved. I hope that's true, or traffic will be horrendous (like it already is).

Does anyone know if they are hiring? If so, how to apply?

There will be no gas station. Traffic will be tough as it is.

Traffic is going to be a nightmare.. Just like at Kings Crossing. I hope they come up with a solution to what may become an epic fail to this area. Don't get me wrong, I am excited this is opening, we needed something like this close by... I am just very very concerned about how it will play out with the additional traffic that will come.

Like most developers, they will wait until traffic implodes then come crying to the state to widen the road at taxpayer expense. Sherwood Hall Lane is gridlocked constantly, to the point where I avoid the entire area.

Price wars, huge traffic jams...this will call for extra popcorn. Party at that little playset across the street !

Price wars are good.
I don't think traffic will be AS BAD AS Kings Crossing, because they have a street coming in as a diagonal, too. [Not saying traffic won't be bad, just different!]

If anything, this should improve traffic. Once people realize it takes 45 minutes just to cross the street, people will avoid the area like the plague.

"Once people realize it takes 45 minutes just to cross the street, people will avoid the area like the plague." Ah, the old "It's so crowded no one goes there any more" phenomenon.
