Photo Contest: Be An Olympian!
Take photos of you, your kids, your neighbors, your friends doing something Olympian— diving, swimming, kayaking, gymnastics—and you could win a prize!
Patch wants to celebrate the summer Olympics, and all the games that go with it!
To do that, we're inviting you to share your favorite photo of you (or your kids, your friends, your neighbors, heck, even your pets!) participating in a sport that is part of the Summer Olympics.
So whether it’s sailing or fencing, swimming or gymnastics, archery or kayaking (or any of the 26 sports in the games)—please share your photo! You can post a photo to this article until 5 p.m., July 29.
Patch editors will choose our 10 favorites, and then you, the reader, can vote for the winner in the comments section of an article that will be posted on July 31. The winner will receive a $50 gift card or prize package of equal or greater value.

For the record, during the Olympics Opening Ceremony and the parade of nations, the man carrying the flag for AUSTRIA was Mount Vernon's very own Markus Rogan. Markus graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 2000. A swimmer specializing in the Backstroke, Markus set several Virginia high school records. Markus trained with (coach) Jeff King's Curl-Burke group at the Lee District Rec Center, and during the summer months, he competed in NVSL for Mansion House Pool, setting several NVSL records. After graduating from Mt. Vernon High in 2000, and from Stanford University in 2004, Markus won (double) Silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing second in both the 100 and 200 Meter Backstroke. Markus now concentrates on the 200 Individual Medley and he is favored to reach the 200 IM finals, competing against American favorites Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.
